Bush League and Beyond!

February 10th, 2010

We haven’t chatted in a while so we thought it would be appropriate to update our fans of whats been going on and what to expect from the week to come.

Last week was our busiest week ever at radiopark and we want to thank all those who came and boogied with us (thats right, we said “boogied”).

Wednesday was the launch of our new House Band: Bush League. We ate free chicken, drank $9.25 jugs of beer and heard some new tunes, old tunes AND all of them were amazing. We hope to see you this Wednesday again for free wings between 8-9PM and 35 cent chicken the rest of the night. Jugs are still a rock boottom $9.25 each!

Thursday was a bunch of northwest bands invading the south. The Hours and Unspoken Truth put on a great show and definitely helped live up to the Rok-Steady name. More cheap beer and cheap chicken this week too and The Duped w/ Better Off Dead. Should be another loud Thursday night.

Friday and Saturday didn’t dissapoint. Anfernee Rockwell started the weekend off with booty shakin beats and DJ Heebz brought his Red Bull 3Style prowess back with him to bring the house down with DJ Phatty. And they are going to bring it again this weekend.

Last but not least… Cupids Ball is this Sunday Feb. 14th. Yes Valentines Day and it’s a long weekend. That means you should come lookin for love in all the right places. DJ Heebz is hostin’ his old buddies Ivan and Al Testa so there will be no lack of tunes to set the mood.

See you this weekend… write on our facebook wall for guest list!

NYE recap and a 2010 forecast

January 6th, 2010

Thanks to all who made NYE our biggest night ever, and just in time to cap off 2009 with a huge party and ring in 2010 with the bar set high. SOAPSTAR Light was out of control, and DJ Phatty had the kids nice and warm for the countdown.

This week (year) is shaping up to be a big one with kinds of bands, DJ’s and every other kind of entertainment you can think of (unicycle riding bear?). This week take in Satori Life in their return to radiopark on Thursday, DJ Anfernee Rockwell telling you to go funk yourself this Friday and last but certainly not least – DJ’s Phatty and Heebz throwin down the best dance party this side of the Elbow river.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you – 2010 is the year of the radiopark.

Grand Opening recap and NYE HYPE!

December 29th, 2009

Let’s start this one off by thanking everyone who came out to make our Grand Opening Celebration a huge success and a sick party. The Rock-It! Scientist killed it and Phatty and Heebz brought the heat early. Can’t think of a night with much better music. Hopefully we can bring DJ’s Guzie and Solarz back sometime soon!

Big Line-up for this weekend… In case you haven’t heard, New Years is coming up and we’ve got the whole weekend lined up for you. The big one is going to be NYE: ONLY $5 cover (no jokes), $4.75  Heinekens all night and Calgary’s own SOAPSTAR (Light) preforming with DJ Phatty and Heebz. Oh yeah, free bubbly stuff at midnight! If you wanna go out on New years but hate the usual hassle then come check out our spin on it as you can show up as you are (no dress code) only drop 5 bucks at the door and boogie like it’s 2009.

Friday night we are gonna keep it going with Anfernee Rockwell telling you to go get Funk’d. He will say it, I swear. Saturday DJ’s Phatty and Heebz make the party go like no-one else in the business.

So get here early for NYE and stay all weekend.

Ricca Razor Sharp W/Guests

November 26th, 2009

Ricca Razor Sharp In June of 2009, Ricca Razor Sharp released his long-awaited sophomore album, ‘Causeways & C-Trains’ on Neferiu Records, touring the nation with the Mantrakid on the ‘Drunken Bachelor and Absentee Father Tour’. Combing musical influences spanning 5 decades, and saluting his home towns of Clarks Harbour NS and Calgary, AB, this album’s symetry and infectiousness will put Ricca’s name on the tongues of music fans and critics from coast to coast. As an energetic stage performer, accomplished freestyler, VP of Neferiu Records, and constant presence on the Alberta music scene, Ricca’s ability to connect to all audiences make him a favorite. With ten years experience, & over 250 performances, Ricca’s scope and positive attitude resonate with those who appreciate the late 80s/early 90s hip-hop ethos. Meanwhile, Ricca’s clever lyrics and free-forming flow are instantly identified by new school fans looking to graduate beyond the empty raps which no longer satisfy their appetite. Drawing influence from three decades of hip-hop, Ricca is a festival favorite, rocking impressive sets at Toronto’s NXNE (where he was identified as one of the top 60 artists in 08), and Calgary’s Sled Island. A veteran of alternative bands defEKt and Phattoe, Ricca also finds motivation in his love of all music, including reggamuffin, electro, pop, rock and even punk, creating a soundscape that any music fan can identify with. 2006’s ‘12 Steps to a Deffer You’ (Neferiu Records) drew positive reactions from audiences both hip hop and otherwise, earning critical acclaim and college radio love. Whether performing solo, or with other members of the Audible Intelligence crew, Ricca has a long history of rocking clubs, pubs, street festivals, house parties, fund-raisers and major events. Having opened for hip-hop heavyweights from Redman/Method Man, Kardinal Offishal, Buck 65 and America’s Top Dance Crew winners the Jabbawackeez, Ricca’s off the wall style has earned him respect that crosses the borderlines of musical genres.
